Adderall Now Available In The UK

adders.org has been advised by BR Pharma International Ltd that Adderall is now available in the United Kingdom.

BR Pharma International Ltd. who in March last year made Ritalin Slow Release available in the UK have now gained the agreement of the Medicine Control Agency and have obtained all the necessary permits from the Home Office to make distribution of Adderall legal in this Country. The drug itself has still yet to be fully registered in the United Kingdom but it is now perfectly legal for it to be prescribed by Consultants, GP's and to be obtained by pharmacists on a patient by patient basis.

Dr. Geoff Kewley of The Learning Assessment Centre in Horsham, West Sussex, one of the Country's leading specialists in ADHD commented, "Obviously, as this stage, we haven't been able to use it very much but, certainly from the experience in North America - where it is used very significantly - it has been very effective. We are greatly looking forward to having it available. The availability over the last 12-18 months of sustained release Ritalin has made an enormous difference to the management of children and adolescents with ADHD, especially those adolescents who have either forgotten or been too oppositional about taking their short-acting Ritalin at school. Though Adderall will have at least a similar benefit profile, it adds to the increased availability of effective medications for managing ADHD and is a very welcome advance."

A recent study in the U.S. which was published in the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in May 2000, said: "Adderall(R) (mixed salts of a single-entity amphetamine product) is significantly more effective at reducing inattention, oppositional behaviour, and other symptoms of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) than methylphenidate, an older ADHD treatment.

The study of 58 children with ADHD also found that the benefits of Adderall last longer than those of methylphenidate (which is sold under the brand name Ritalin(R)). In fact, 70 percent of patients taking a single morning dose of Adderall found significant improvement in ADHD symptoms, while just 15 percent of patients taking methylphenidate improved significantly with only one dose."

Apparently all a pharmacist has to do is to fax a photocopy of the original prescription to BR Pharma International on (UK Only) (Tel:020 8238 6770) BR Pharma and ADDerall can be sent by special next day delivery.

At present Adderall is only available in packs of 100 tablets in both 5 and 10mg doses. More information on Adderall can be found on our medications page.
