Study - How ADHD Affects Siblings

I am a Masters Social Work student in my final year at Anglia Ruskin University, Chelmsford.

I am very interested in how ADHD affects siblings, and through my dissertation I plan to explore the outcomes for both affected and non-affected ADHD siblings with a focus on positivity. Much research has explored the sibling relationship where there is a disability in the family but little has been done where ADD is the condition, and most of what has been done has reported negative outcomes. I certainly feel there is a need to explore how this sibling relationship has positive outcomes for both the affected and non-affected siblings and I hope that this research will help to support interventions when families are in crisis due to this disability (I have 2 grown daughters, 1 affected by ADHD , the other at the opposite end of the spectrum...I have seen how their relationship has had its ups and downs and how, if I had been better informed, I would have understood and used this all-important relationship to help them far better than I did).

I would like to interview approx 4 professionals (therapists/social workers/counsellors) who have worked with families where at least 1 child has ADHD and at least 1 sibling does not (due to ethics limitations I am unable to interview parents or children). I would really appreciate any professionals, who would be prepared to be interviewed, to please contact me by email

I have no restrictions regarding travel and interviews will probably take place in January 2012.
