New Zealand Research Project

Investigation into the effect of a nutritional supplement on mood and behaviour in children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) with mood dysregulation: a pilot study using single case ABAB design.

Interest in complementary alternative medicines (CAM) for the treatment of ADHD is increasing. Researchers at The University of Canterbury are investigating a micronutrient formula (i.e., vitamins and minerals) called EMPowerplus (EMP+) in the treatment ADHD and mood instability in children aged from 8-12 years. This research stems from an open-label trial of EMP+ for adults with ADHD, which showed promising results for mood symptoms and some ADHD symptoms. Children in the Christchurch region who have (or may have ADHD but have not yet been diagnosed) ADHD and are medication free are invited to take part in this research.
